The Comfort of Friendship

By Camryn M.
“I wish there was a way to know you're in the good old days before you've actually left them.” - Andy Bernard, “The Office”

I guess this quote has always made me think a little bit about appreciating the present, but this being my final year in high school, it hits just a little bit harder.

For the past three years, I have been a part of an incredible journey at Stanstead College, an experience that has not only provided me with numerous opportunities for personal growth but has also been the source of lifelong friendships.

When I reflect on my time here, I can confidently say that the most valuable aspects of my Stanstead College journey aren't measured in hours spent in classrooms or completing homework, but the true essence lies with the people I've met and the memories we've created together.

Upon initially considering Stanstead, I had no idea of how transformative these short three years would be or how I would have formed such strong friendships, shaping me into the person I am today and influencing the person I aspire to become in the future.

I think everyone can agree that boarding schools like Stanstead are unique in a way and unlike any other type of lifestyle for a growing teenager. In the boarding school lifestyle, you are immersed into a 24/7 schedule and have to succumb to a complete lifestyle change. Living at a boarding school, you become separated from your family and your familiar support systems, forcing us to grow up quickly and become self-sufficient at very young ages.

This has made me realize how important it is to rely on those around you for comfort and support. In the absence of our families, friendships take on an even more significant role, providing solace and a sense of community. Boarding schools challenge us to rely on friends and teachers more than we might elsewhere. Where else can you go and find your math teacher tucking you into bed at night?

Expressing gratitude for this support often goes overlooked, but it is crucial. We must acknowledge and appreciate those around us for all they do for us. As we navigate the ups and downs of high school, I've come to understand the significance of having people to share the journey with and appreciate them while you are living through the good days.

So to finish: You never truly realize what you have until it's gone. Reach out to your friends today and let them know how much you appreciate them; perhaps, they need to hear it more than you think. I, for one, am so grateful for having all of you guys to share this incredible journey with me. I am Camryn and I can’t wait to make some final memories with you.
